ESTIMATING PROBABILITIES THROUGH THE MONGOLIAN SHAGAI GAME: A CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE APPROACH TO TEACHING STATISTICS

This study used Mongolia’s traditional Shagai game to teach probability and statistics. Across 10,050 throws, the four outcomes showed different probabilities; the results informed a workshop for nine doctoral students. Their statistical understanding improved after the workshop, suggesting that familiar cultural materials can support statistics learning.
